The Town of Natick is participating in a municipal aggregation program, a form of group purchasing in which the Town arranges electricity supply on behalf of its citizens to generate price stability for local residents and businesses.

The program started in November 2015, when Natick selected ConEdison Solutions to replace Eversource (formerly NSTAR) for eligible residences and business. The program began at a time when electricity rates spiked, and the goal of the program was to stabilize rates, save residents money, and provide Natick residents with a choice regarding their electricity supplier. In addition to providing an alternative to Eversource, the program also allowed residents to choose a 100% green energy option. Learn more about this Greener Option.

Eligible customers began receiving electricity from ConEdison Solutions on the first meter read date after January 1, 2015.

Options for Natick Residents

The Natick Community Choice Electricity rate of 13.32 cents/kWh is higher than Eversource Basic Service of 8.208 cents/kWh through July 1 - December 31, 2016. As such, the Board of Selectmen recommends residents explore their options.

Natick residents have the option to opt-out of the program at any time, at no penalty, and return to Eversource Basic Service or sign a contract with a competitive electricity supplier. A comparison of Natick customers' pricing options are below.

Should Natick Customers Continue with the Program?

 

Switching your electricity supplier is a business decisions and you should treat it as such. One of the benefits of the Community Choice Program is that you may leave, or opt out, at any time with no cost or penalty, and Natick residents are encouraged to explore their options.

A summary of these options and their implications is provided in the table below:

Residents may opt out at any time, at no penalty and return to Eversource Basic Service by calling 866-469-8361.

The rate change becomes effective after two billing cycles. If you move forward with this option, your next bill will note that you are switching to Eversource, and your second bill will reflect the new, lower pricing.

Opt out and sign a contract with a competitive supplier

Residents may opt out at any time, at no penalty and sign up with a competitive electricity supplier. The Department of Public Utilities publishes a spreadsheet twice weekly that lists available suppliers and their pricing on its Let's Go Shopping for an Electricity Supply page. Natick customers should refer to the list titled "NSTAR dba Eversource".

Remember to do your due diligence on the company and make sure you are comfortable with the terms of their contract. Check to see if it is subject to minimum bill amounts, whether prices are fixed or variable and whether there are any contract length requirements or early termination fees.  Additionally customers should understand what will happen at the end of their term. Prices often increase significantly at the end of the initial term. 


Remain with the Community Choice Program (make no change)

Residents who wish to remain with the standard Community Choice program will pay 13.32 cents per kWh through their January 2017 meter read and will retain their ability to opt out at any time with no termination fee.  These residents will miss the opportunity to take advantage of current lower market rates.


It is also important to know that the Town is not calling Natick customers about the rate change. If someone calls and asks for your account number, you should be cautious. We recommend treating your Eversource account number like your credit card information. Do not give it out unless you are ready to sign a contract.


How to Opt Out

You may choose not to participate in the program at any time with no cost or penalty. This is called opting out. There is no penalty for opting out. If you choose to opt out, you will be switched back to Eversource Basic Service.

To opt out: Contact ConEdison Solutions at 1-866-469-8361, provide your account number, and tell them that you want to opt out of the Natick Community Choice Electricity Supply Program.

New in Town? You will receive an opt-out letter in the mail shortly after signing up for electricity service with Eversource. To opt out, sign and date the postcard that accompanies the letter, then place it in the mail within 30 days of the postmark on the envelope. Or contact ConEdison Solutions at 1-866-469-8361 and tell them that you want to opt out of the Natick Community Choice Electricity Supply Program.

Have a contract with a different electricity supplier? Contact ConEdison Solutions at 1-866-469-8361 and ask to join. We recommend that you carefully check the terms and conditions of your supplier agreement. Your ability to terminate your agreement with your supplier may be restricted.

New in Town? You will receive an opt-out letter in the mail shortly after signing up for electricity service with Eversource. You will be automatically enrolled unless you don't want to participate and you choose to opt out.
