Option 3: Keep Existing Plans/Change Contribution Rates
Contact TypeContact Information

A third option for changing Natick's health insurance options would be to change nothing at all - except the employer/employee contribution rates for premiums. At present, the Town pays the required minimum of 50% toward all so-called PPO plans and anywhere from 77 – 90% toward the various EPO and HMO plans.

By way of example, if all current EPO and HMO plans were shifted to 70% employer cost and 30% employee cost, the Town would save about $1.27 million and all of this savings would be shifted to the employees.  The obvious problem with this option is that the overall costs do not change, but a portion of the cost burden is shifted from the employer to the employee.  We are hopeful that the employer and the employee can – together – work to reduce overall costs.
