Minutes of the Meeting of the Board of Trustees
Morse Institute Library
December 8, 2009

Call to Order: 4:00 pm
1. The Board approved the minutes of the meeting of November 10, 2009 with the addition of the name of Dale Smith who was present at that meeting.
2. The President reported that the Library sponsored “social” was successful thanks to the staff members who exhibited several of the services that are now available to the patrons. The thanks of the Trustees go to all members of the staff who contributed to the success of this outreach effort.
3. The Trustees requested that Ms. Stetson send a letter of thanks to the Friends for their contribution of funds for two new “book depositories” which will grace the premises.
4. Ms. Nardi reported that the Annual Fund is on track at this stage in the campaign.
5. Director’s Report:
- FY2011 Budget was submitted to the town on 12/7/09. Department Heads will be meeting with Martha White the week of December 14th. Copies are available for each Trustee.
- Food for Fines began on Sunday, November 15 and runs until December 31st. Channel 5 News was in the library on Monday, December 7 to film our patrons’ donating food to pay off their fines. A short clip was aired last night at 6:30 p.m.
- American Girl Doll Raffle ended on Monday, December 7th. Nearly $900.00 was raised for the Bookmobile.
- Foundation Center – I met with Rebecca Donham, Senior Program Officer at the Metrowest Community Health Care Foundation, about the Library submitting a proposal to become a Foundation Center Cooperating Collection. Jane and I will work on the proposal and submit it in January. Demetri Kyriakis will be the staff person responsible for the Collection.
- Staff Luncheon will be held on Thursday, December 17th from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Harriet has agreed to represent the Trustees. The Trustees agreed to fund the main courses.
- Action Plan FY11 was submitted to the MBLC on time. Copies are available for each Trustee.
- Long Range Plan will be due to the MBLC by October 1, 2010. I have asked Sunny Vandermark, Regional Administrator for the Metrowest MassachusettsRegional Library System, if she would be available to assist use with focus groups.
- “Museums, Libraries and 21st Century Skills” – www.imls.gov The initiative underscores the critical role our nation’s museums and libraries play in helping citizens build such 21st Century skills as information, communications and technology literacy, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, civic literacy and global awareness. An online self-assessment is found at www.imls21stcenturyskills.org. A printout of this document is available in my office.
