Minutes of the Meeting of the Board of Trustees
Morse Institute Library
March 9, 2010

TRUSTEES PRESENT:               Kathleen Donovan, Gerald Mazor and Joseph Keefe
               Excused:                Harriet Buckingham and Elliot Goodman

ADMINISTRATION PRESENT:         Linda Stetson, Director
                                        Jane Finlay, Assistant Director
                                        Marie Nardi, Community Relations Coordinator

CALL TO ORDER:                  4:00 PM


1.      Subsequent to a presentation by the Library’s accountant, the Board approved the recommendation of the Director and the accountant to consolidate the balances of a variety of small funds that we were carrying as individual lines in our financial statement.

2.      Ms. Donovan presented the proposal regarding strategic plan development submitted by Mr. Jay Vogt.  The Board voted unanimously to contract with Mr. Vogt for the period present to December 1, 2010.  This is the target date for submission to the Board.

3.      Director’s Report:
  • We have been awarded the Foundation Center Core Collection.  Many thanks to Jane Finlay for writing the grant and ushering it through the process. Rebecca Donham of MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation provided the annual fee of $995.00.  Soft opening planned for April, with a grand opening in late May or early June.  Ms. Finlay gave additional information
  • FY2011 Budget PowerPoint presentation has been completed.  Meeting with Cathy Collins, Finance Committee, library sub-committee chair, on 3/10/10.  First Finance Committee hearing is Thursday, March 18th.  (After the fact, the presentation was a major success for the new Library Director, the Library and the Trustees.
  • The Trustees have a date with Pegasus on Tuesday, April 6th at 3 p.m.  (This was later rescheduled for April 20th.)
  • Handout given showing the consequences of proposed budget cuts as they relate to our ability tp meet the Muncipal Appropriation Requirement.
  • As part of our 2010 Author Series, Rabbi Kushner will be here on Sunday, March 14th at 2 p.m.
  • Kathleen and I met with Jay Vogt regarding Strategic/Long Range Plan.  Proposal passed out.
  • The MA Board of Library Commissioners’ Public Relations Advisory Committee will be meeting here on Monday March 15th at 12:30 pm.
  • “Get Serious” Teen Homework Center – soft opening today; grand opening during National Library Week, April 11 – 17.
  • New website and Eventkeeper Calendar going live March 15th.
  • Veterans Oral History interviews have temporarily slowed down to give staff time to update website and manage the interviews already conducted.  Jane attended a hearing at the State House on 3/3/10.
  • Jane and I met with the town’s new human resource director – Richard Tranfaglia.
  • The capacity of our server is being expanded with additional memory.
