In 1997, the building maintenance budgets for the town hall, library, police and fire departments were transferred to the new Building Maintenance Division, which already had the responsibility for maintaining the senior center/court house, Cole Recreation and the DPW complex. In 1998, the division became responsible for the maintenance of the Eliot Montessori School. The new arrangement for maintaining town-owned buildings has proven to be much efficient and cost-effective. In order to provide custodial services during the operating hours
at each building, the division subcontracts a custodian service. The division utilizes a computerized management system to generate work orders, prepare accurate reports, and project workloads. A computerized HVAC system has allowed the division to monitor the temperature and airflow of the new buildings. In addition to routine custodial and maintenance activities for all of the buildings, the division is responsible for all of the service maintenance of the fire alarms, security alarms and HVAC equipment. The division subcontracts all electrical and plumbing repairs and maintenance. This division consists of six employees.
