Public Records Center

The Town of Natick is committed to open government and aims to improve transparency through increased access to public information.  Massachusetts law protects the rights to access public information and has long mandated government disclosure of records.  The Town fulfills its responsibility to citizens by pro-actively posting commonly requested documents to it's website and providing access to or copies of public requests upon request.

These guidelines are intended to assist members of the public seeking access to public records in the custody of the Town of Natick.

Effective January 1, 2017, the Massachusetts Public Records Law (MGL c. 66 and c.4, § 7 (26)) provides that a municipality must, within 10 business days (Monday-Friday, excluding legal holidays), respond to a request for records by providing access to or a copy of such records, or explaining any delay or denial.  Public Records are broadly defined in Massachusetts law.  For more information regarding the Public Record Law please visit the Secretary of State's website.

The full text of regulations regarding the Public Records law is available at Records Access Regulation (950 CMR 32.00) which became effective on January 1, 2017. In order to protect certain privacy and security interests, there are statutory exemptions prohibiting particular public records, or portions thereof, from disclosure pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 4, Section 7.
