Visual evidence provided by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) indicate the presence of a cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom in the North, Middle, and South Ponds of Lake Cochituate. Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) will continue to monitor bloom conditions in coordination with DCR.
Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) can cause illness in people and pets. Residents are advised to avoid contact with affected water. Residents are also advised to prevent pets from coming into contact with affected water.
