East Park Issue

Last week, following review of existing testing well results the Town of Natick was notified of the presence of PCBs on part of East Park.  The area of issue is the sloped Town land adjacent to the rental car company and Speedway gas station.  The Town of Natick took all appropriate necessary steps, including the retention of licensed site professional (LSP) to conduct additional testing.  The testing results were received today, and confirmed PCBs at unacceptable levels.

As a result, part of the area behind the backstop of the baseball field will be sectioned off with 6 ft fencing, and the Town will need to work to remediate the area immediate.  There is no danger to our drinking water and all remediation efforts are being coordinated with our local Dept. of Public Health and Department of Environment Protection.   There are no known issues with the playground and other areas of the park.  At this time, we do not know what the total costs will be for remediation and we will continue to update information on the Town’s website as new information becomes available.
