Receiving advance warnings for severe weather, timely emergency alerts, and information during a disaster is critical to staying safe in an emergency. Every family should have multiple methods for receiving emergency alerts, including at least one with an audible alert to wake you in the middle of the night.

The Town of Natick uses multiple notification and warning systems to make sure emergency alerts are delivered to the people who need the information. Make sure you are signed up for the systems that require subscription and understand how they are used for emergency communications.

smart911

Smart911 is Natick’s primary alert system. Natick Emergency personnel use this system to send time-sensitive messages via phone, email and/or text. Residents can also use this service to build a profile with pertinent medical information to help first responders during an emergency. This information is stored in a secure database and only transmitted when you call 9-1-1.

care and prepare

The Care and Prepare Program is an additional alert that should be used by residents who need more than a phone or text alert.  Residents with limited mobility, who rely on electricity for medical equipment, or anyone with special needs should register for this program.

social media

Municipal websites & social media accounts are a reliable source of information about local severe weather, emergency situations, and disasters. Follow the Town of Natick, Natick Police Department, and Natick Fire Department on Facebook and on Twitter at @NatickPolice and @NatickFire.

eas

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national warning system that uses radio, television, and satellite channels to broadcast important public safety information during times of emergency. When an EAS alert is issued, you will hear a tone followed by an audio message. Participating television broadcasters will also display a visual message.

WAS

Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are sent as text messages to your cell phone based on your location (you will only receive notifications if you are in the area of the emergency). WEAs have three alert categories: Imminent Threat, AMBER, and National. Your phone must be WEA-capable and turned on to receive an alert. Check with your provider to learn more.
